LIVING IN PORT ISAAC

A picturesque fishing village since the early fourteenth century, Port Isaac is best known for its narrow, winding streets, lined with white-washed cottages and traditional granite, slate-fronted Cornish houses, many of which are listed as having architectural or historic importance. Right up until the middle of the 19th Century, Port Isaac was a busy port handling various imports and exports, including coal, timber, pottery and Delabole slate. After the advent of the railways, it became principally a fishing port, and unsurprisingly, the village is now known for its seafood, with renowned chef Nathan Outlaw owning two restaurants here; Outlaw’s Fish Kitchen by the harbour and the two Michelin star Restaurant Nathan Outlaw at the top, both serving responsibly sourced locally landed seafood.

Older, characterful properties dominate in the lower conservation area of the village giving easy access to the harbour and shops. At the top of the village, larger properties enjoy far reaching views over the harbour and become more contemporary in style.

LIFESTYLE

A traditional fishing village nestled in a steep sided valley that retains its charm by remaining relatively unchanged from its days of fishing, slate export and smuggling. This picturesque village has narrow winding streets and whitewashed cottages that lead down to the harbour where you can watch the local fishermen land their daily catch of fish, crab and lobsters. Larger cliff-top houses command majestic views and all have easy access to the plentiful restaurants, pubs, cafés and shops of this vibrant local community. Port Isaac is only ten minutes drive away from the beaches of Polzeath, Daymer and Rock while just next-door lies the tiny, peaceful cove of Port Gaverne. Once a thriving trading port itself, it has a pub and beachside cafe with breath-taking views overlooking a pretty pebbled beach that is perfect for wild swimming, kayaking and stand up paddleboarding.
